- Abstract
- A methodology is presented that allows the quantification of the influence of possible flaws in welded beam-to-column joints under cyclic loading, according to their size and location, in or at the vicinity of the weld region. The analyses showed that flaws situated at the middle of the the weld’s length are more susceptible to additional propagation and that larger sized defects that are located either at the beam-to-column interface at the bottom face of the beam’s flange, the heat affected zone or the root of the weld access hole are expected to propagate at approximately the same loading cycle. Smaller sized defects near the heat affected zone at the bottom face of the beam’s flange will show earlier crack propagation comparing to other locations around the weld.
