Generic Vehicle Models

Purpose
  • Created for numerical impact simulations against vehicle security barriers
  • Particularly adapted for:
    • Virtual testing of different scenarios (e.g. different impact angles and velocities)
    • Sensitivity analyses with respect to vehicle properties: mass distributions, dimensions, aging effects, etc.
Main characteristics
  • Representative of a given category (N1, N2 or N3)
  • Brand independent - based on common characteristics
  • Simple - includes only crash relevant vehicle components
  • Computationally efficient - requires relatively little computational resources
  • Adjustable parameters: dimensions, mass, crash-related stiffness
Validation
  • Compliant with standards CEN/TR 16303 and ISO 22343
  • Validated against crash experiments

Working group ‘Numerical simulation for hostile vehicle mitigation

JRC is collaborating with stakeholders from academia, industry and public administrations to come up with generic numerical vehicle models for the performance assessment of vehicle security barriers. The group is open to new participants. If you are interested to participate in the working group, please send us an email to the functional mailbox: jrc-public-spaces@ec.europa.eu
